There are two varieties of Bols Advocaat: a
"thick" Bols Advocaat which is sold mostly
on the Dutch market and eaten with a spoon, and the
more liquid "export" version. The thick Bols
Advocaat also contains egg white, while in the export
version only the pure egg yolks are used.
Use
Thick Bols Advocaat has traditionally enjoyed
popularity, not only as an aperitif or digestif, but
also as an ingredient for all kinds of desserts, for
instance with icecreams and pastries. The export
variety is particularly suited for cocktails and
longdrinks.
The traditional thick Bols Advocaat was, and still is
to a large extent, enjoyed in a wide glass. Fill the
glass to about 2/3 and top it with a liberal amount of
sweetened whipped cream. A sprinkling of cocoa powder
or vanilla sugar makes this traditional Dutch treat
all the more enjoyable.
